At a recommendation from the Pastor Nominating Committee, the congregation unanimously voted to call Rev. Crumley on March 24,2013 and on May 13, 2013 she officially became the first woman to lead the church in its 273-year existence.
The Rev. Rachel Crumley (Pastor Rachel) earned her Master of Divinity degree from Austin Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas. She also attended Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City, TN, before transferring to Austin. She holds a B.A. from Lees-McRae College, Banner Elk, NC, in Religious and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Pastor Rachel was ordained on August 13, 2006 at Arbor Dale Presbyterian Church in Banner Elk, NC. She served as Associate Pastor of Front Royal Presbyterian Church from July 2006 until her call to Tuscarora.
Pastor Rachel has been involved in the Presbyterian Church since childhood. She has had a variety of experiences working with children, youth and adult education in the church. She grew up in Sterling, VA, where her parents still live. She and her husband, Paul, are the parents of two beautiful children.
Pastor Rachel is a proponent of member involvement, communication and prayer, and she wants to be flexible and open to what the Holy Spirit is calling the church to be and do on “our journey together”.
